In March our family took a great trip to Costa Rica. We were searching for a destination that all four of us would enjoy. We had thought about just doing a beach vacation, but since baby #3 is on the way, we also figured that we wouldn’t have an opportunity to go on a more adventurous trip for a while. Costa Rica can truly be an adventure trip (ziplining, rafting, hiking) but even with our kids being 2 and 4 we found lots of great activities to do. We loved this trip and plan to travel back as the kids get older.
We stayed at three different locations during our 10 days. First we started at the beach on the Pacific side in the northern area of the country called Guanacaste. The beach was a lovely black sand beach. This area is arid and temps were over 90 degrees everyday. So, we swam and relaxed.
After the beach we traveled inland to the Arenal Volcano area. It was about a 3 hour drive and the scenery was just gorgeous. It transitioned from dry, brittle land into lush, green rainforest. Once we got to the resort in Arenal, our activities began. My husband John had the opportunity to go horseback riding with our 4 year old, Samantha. I was too pregnant and the 2 year old was too small, so we hung back and took photos. During another afternoon we hiked down about 500 stairs to the amazing waterfall, pictured below.
That’s all for this post. In the next part of this post, I’ll be showing some photos from our last stop, which was by far our favorite.
