As I hold our third baby, rocking, coaxing him to sleep, I feel exhausted yet I also feel joy. He is likely my last baby. His little hand rests on my chest in the dim light and I try to memorize every dimple on those chunky hands. (Is there anything more perfect in this world?) He smiles as he finally drifts off to sleep.
And I realize in this moment – it is in love that we find meaning. Throughout our lives we search for fulfillment, and then in an instant our children show us what we’ve been looking for. We become our best selves. We live exactly how God made us to live. We were created for nothing less than love.
It is usually the tiny, mundane moments of our parenthood when our love is most manifest. Those are the moments that we most wish to hold on to – to remember what our baby feels like as we rock them in our arms, or to recall the afternoon game of tag and the laughter around the dinner table. These moments happen in our daily lives, usually when no one is paying attention.
Since our baby Matthew arrived, I have been striving to document our lives. Even in a few short months, it has been a blessing to be able to look back on some special moments that I’ve captured. These images truly tell the story of our life and I feel an overwhelming inspiration to create these types of images for other families. So I am introducing a new type of session, Family Documentary Sessions.
In my Family Documentary Sessions I will record these moments of connection and love for you. Your love for your family is perfect and beautiful just as it is (sink full of dirty dishes and all), and it needs to be remembered. Don’t let today go unnoticed!
